Types of War

War has been defined in various ways. For present purposes, we may define was as sustained intergruop violence in which state military forces participate on at least one side or on both sides in the case of interstate war and generally on only one side is the case of civil war. In a world of standing military forces it is hard to say exactly where peace ends and war begins. A military battle that is not sustained over time may or may not be considered a war. The brief Chinese-Soviet border clashes in March and July 1969, for example, entailed several small battles at a few points along the border, in which some hundreds of people were killed. Similarly ambigous is a long term violent struggle involving irregular forces, such as in Northern Ireland. There, uniformed British military forces waged a sustained violent struggle with a non state army, the Irish Republican Army (IRA), until a cease-fire that has held on and off since 1995.

Thus, many different activities are covered by the general term war. Consequently, it is not easy to say how many wars are going on in the world at the moment. Wars are very diverse. Several types of war tend to arise from different situations and play different sorts of roles in bargaining over conflicts. Starting from the largest wars, we may distinguish the following main categories.

Hegemonic War is a war over control of the entire world order – the rules of the international system as a whole, including the role of world hegemony. This class of wars is also known as global war, world war, general war or systemic war. The last hegemonic war was World War II.

Total War is warfare by one state waged to conquer and occupy another. The goal is to reach the capital city and force the surrender of the government, which can then be replaced with one of the victor’s choosing. The 2003 Iraq War is a classic case. Napoleonic Wars, which introduced large-scale conscription and geared the entire French International economy toward the war effort. In total war, the entire society mobilized for the struggle, the entire society of the enemy is considered a legitimate target.

Limited War includes military actions carried out to gain some objective short of the surrender and occupation of the enemy. For instance, the U.S led war against Iraq in 1991 retook the territory of Kuwait but did not go on to Baghdad to topple Saddam Hussain’s government. Many border wars have this character; after occupying the land it wants,a state may stop short and defend its gains.

Civil War refers to war between factions within a state trying to create, or prevent, a new government for the entire state or some territorial part of it. The U.S Civil War of the 1860’s is a good example of a secessionist civil war.

Guerrilla War which includes certain kinds of civil wars is a warfare without front lines. Irregular forces operate in the midst of and often hidden or protected by, civilian populations. The purpose is not to directly confront an enemy army but rather to harass and punish it so as to gradually limit its operation and effectively liberate territory from its control.

In short, Wars are constantly taking place between states as well as in the states since the inception of history itself. It will remain till the world exists because of various desires of individuals and state-actors as well.

BART to San Francisco

Parking is at a premium in San Francisco with most hotels charging $ 60 + per day extra if they even have parking spaces available. In addition, fueling stations are few and far between which translates to inflated prices. Public transportation is superb in San Francisco making it the best choice for getting around. For those flying into the San Francisco Airport (SFO), BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) will be your first step for quickly covering the distance from the airport to popular tourist destinations like Union Square, Embarcadero and Fisherman's Wharf. BART is a mostly subterranean train that links the entire bay area.

The cost to ride BART from SFO to any one of four stops between the Civic Center and Embarcadero is $ 8.10 one way per person. Upon exiting your plane, you'll need to head for the upper level of the airport and catch SkyTrain to the BART terminal. SkyTrain is a small train that circles the airport connecting all terminals with BART. There is no cost to ride SkyTrain since it is a very short ride that never leaves the airport facility. Once at the BART terminal, you'll be on your way in 15 minutes or less.

It's easy to purchase your BART ticket. Find the ticket kiosk at the station entrance. Use the pricing chart on the front of the kiosk to calculate the cost to your destination. Insert cash, credit or debit card into the machine to begin. Choose the dollar amount and number of tickets needed and print tickets. For cash customers, the BART ticket kiosk dispenses change in quarters. So an $ 8.10 ticket purchased using a $ 20 bill will return nearly $ 12 in quarters … you've been forewarned.

Take your ticket and head for the entrance gates – easily identified as hip to waist high, stainless steel shoots with orange panels blocking passage through. Insert your ticket in the slot at the front of the gate. Your ticket will suck into the machine, the orange panels will retract and your ticket will reappear from the top of the gate as you pass through. You'll need your ticket again later in order to exit the BART system. Hop on the next train and make yourself comfortable. There's plenty of room for you and your baggage.

It will be approximately 9 stops before the Civic Center / UN Plaza station which marks the beginning of the downtown region. Stops are announced from overhead speakers and when the doors open, overhead signs identify the current station. Once your destination is achieved, hop off the train and head for the exit gates. The exit gates look just like the entrance gates. Once again, insert your ticket in the front and the panels will open allowing passage through. This time your ticket will remain in the machine. In the event that the ticket price paid did not cover the entire cost to the destination, your ticket will not be accepted into the gate. No problem – Locate the ADFARE ticket kiosk and purchase a ticket to cover the difference.

Exit the BART station and head up to street level for connections via bus, classic streetcar, cable car or taxi. Cable cars are $ 5 and connect from the Powell Street Station. They are very popular making them a little too crowded for traveling with baggage. The classic streetcars are only $ 2 and follow Market Street to the Embarcadero and on to Fisherman's Wharf. Buses are also $ 2 and cover all other inner-city destinations.

When returning home, be sure to board the correct BART train to the San Francisco Airport, SFO. Watch the digital displays for the destination of the next arriving train. There will be four separate trains heading to different destinations. Refer to the BART System Map if you accidently board the wrong train. There will be several opportunities to correct your mistake by exiting and re-boarding on the correct train. BART trains run from 4 am to past midnight during the week and start at 6 am on weekends. We hope this article answers all of your questions about the BART process and entices you to give BART a try. Visit the San Francisco page of our website for everything else you may need for your trip.

Career in Banking Jobs

The banking industry has passed through a volatile period and even though it has seen its share of hard times, banking jobs are expected to grow over the next decade. Many of these jobs are for administrative staff and support. In fact, nearly 64 percent of banking jobs are of this type. These areas are where the biggest opportunity for jobs will be found as they have a high turn over rate.

Management positions are commonly filled from within the company by promoting highly skilled personnel and these jobs are more competitive to obtain. These jobs require suitable education such as an MBA. There are also specialized jobs within the banking industry and these require additional training and certifications. For example, those who wish to pursue a career in mortgage lending might want to take the Certified Mortgage Banker program available through the Mortgage Bankers Association. Someone seeking employment selling securities needs to hold a license from the National Association of Securities Dealers.

When competing for top level banking jobs, proper training and credentials is important. Of equal importance is the type and amount of experience in the industry as most upper level jobs are filled by promotions from within. A willingness to start at the bottom and work your way up is a good attitude to have when it comes to these jobs.

Banks deal in all kinds of transactions and it takes all kinds of skilled personnel to handle them properly. In addition to support staff, management staff, and mortgage lenders, banks also need auditors, accountants, computer specialists, and even legal personnel. Banking jobs also require an ability to deal with the public in a friendly and helpful way and an attention to detail and numbers. Advantages to banking careers are the pleasant working conditions and hours as well as the opportunity to have holidays and weekends off in most branch locations.

How to Deal With Injuries at Theme Parks or Resorts

Each year, millions of people visit Florida to enjoy the beaches, theme parks, and historic sites. A vacation to the sunshine state can create memories that last a lifetime. Unfortunately, some individuals may be left with memories of accidents or injuries that overshadow the positive aspects of their vacation.

Injuries and accidents are confusing and stressful, but if you're away from home, you may not know where to turn. If you need treatment, visit a medical professional. Similarly, talk to a lawyer if you are having trouble understanding the legal aspects of your claim.

Theme Parks

Florida's theme parks, such as Universal and Walt Disney World, attract visitors from all over the world. People flock to these establishments for many reasons, but most of them seem to seek out the thrills that roller coasters and other rides offer. Roller coasters and simulated rides are exciting, but sometimes the adrenaline gets pumping because we've gotten more than we've bargained for.

Most, if not all, rides state that certain individuals may not be clear to ride a certain attraction, but the staff also has a duty to protect those who ride. If you were injured due to inadequate lighting, improperly secured seat belts, or faulty equipment, you may have a claim against a theme park for personal injury benefits.

Some rides are meant to inspire fear or anxiety in the rider, but that does not excuse injuries that could have been prevented. Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey is probably Universal Orlando's most popular ride at the moment, having opened in summer 2010. The Orlando Sentinel states that the park reported its first significant guest injuries on the ride. A man briefly lost consciousness on the ride and another experienced chest pains in the beginning quarter of 2011. The highly intense graphics, motions, sounds, and themes may present unexpected dangers to riders.

When people visit Florida, they need a place to stay. Some people want to extend the theme park experience past when the park closes, so they stay at the theme park's hotel or resort. These accommodations are popular with families, especially if they have children who may have an interest in a certain character, movie, or television show.

The resort's attractions can quickly become dangerous if the conditions make it so. For example, some resorts do not always have lifeguards on duty at their pools, which can leave swimmers (especially children) at risk of injury or death. The food or beverages at their restaurants or buffets can be too hot and burn a visitor. Appliances or electronics in the rooms may be faulty and cause electrical shocks or fires. These events are not common, but they can happen if the staff or management does not try to prevent them.

Treatment for a Tourist Injury

If you're injured on a theme park ride or at a resort, you want to immediately notify the staff. Staff members should know the proper procedure for helping injured theme park and resort visitors, usually by filling out an accident report and calling emergency services if necessary. If you are with someone, ask them to document the danger that caused the injury by taking pictures or writing down critical information. After you've left the park, visit a medical professional that is qualified to treat your injury. Continue to get treatment when you return home if it is necessary to your recovery.

Serious injuries could make an unfortunate situation more complicated. Getting benefits from the appropriate sources can be difficult or impossible without taking legal action. Talk to an injury attorney as soon as you can following your accident. Even if you live across the country or across the world, a Florida injury attorney may be able to help you if you've been injured in the state.
