4 Top Day Trip Destinations From Phuket

Phuket is a wonderful tourist destination in Thailand with its most ravishing scenery that is perfect for the multi-island boat tours. Phuket boat tours are possible on a traditional long-tail boat or speedboat to give the opportunity to explore the clear waters, stunning islands and many other local attractions. Here are a few of the most exciting day trips from Phuket:

Phi Phi Islands

One of the most enjoyable day trips is certain to include a stop at the Phi Phi Islands. This island is only a 50-60 minute journey from Phuket and has the stunning scenery of jade-green sea mixed with the limestone karst formations. Even though the Phi Phi Islands has the picture-perfect scenery, it isn’t the best destination for those in search of seclusion because it is extremely popular with day trippers. A couple of the great sights include Koh Phi Phi Don and Maya Bay on Koh Phi Phi Ley. Also, the crystal-clear waters make a visit to these islands a great choice for the snorkeling enthusiasts.

Cheow Larn Lake

Khao Sok National Park is nearly 150 km from Phuket and has rich, lush-green rain forests, towering limestone peaks, waterfalls and deep blue lakes. This nature park is appreciated for not only its natural beauty, but also the ability to get involved in many different activities, such as jungle trekking, exploring bat-filled caves and kayaking down the Sok River. Also, a great part of the park to visit is the artificial Cheow Lan Lake with its luxury tented camps and floating raft houses. This region of Thailand can get quite wet in the rainy season, so it is more practical to travel between December and April for the more comfortable and dry weather.

Coral Island

Coral Island is a popular day trip destination that is only 6 km from mainland Phuket and favored by beach lovers and snorkelers for the soft white sands and coral. Snorkeling gives the chance to see a variety of tropical fish, such as trumpet fish, butterfly fish and parrotfish. The island has two major beaches with Long Beach the easiest to reach, while Banana Beach is a further option, but does require a 15 minute trek through the jungle to reach. Popular activities include relaxing and massages on the beach, banana boat rides, kayaking and parasailing.

Racha Islands

The white sands and clear waters of the Racha Islands attract plenty of day trippers. Racha Islands is about 12 km from Phuket and easily reached by boat in 45-60 minutes. At Siam is the quietest island, while Racha Yai (Big Racha) is the one that gets the most attention and popular for its swimming and snorkeling activities.

Korean Supermarkets – Better Than the Tourist Locations

Visiting a country's supermarket can be just as, if not more revealing, than traveling to all of its tourist spots. I live in South Korea, and have visited the N Seoul Tower, which is considered one of the big tourist destinations in Seoul. I told a Korean friend about it who has been living in Korea her entire life, and she has never been. But a Korean Supermarket: that's another story. Go to a Korean Supermarket, where Korean people go at least once a week, and you'll find so many interesting things out about their culture, and just awesome things in general, such as:

1) It's exceptionally crowded. On the weekends, it's overwhelmingly crowded. You will not be able to walk straight and simply get what's on your list. Be prepared to take detours. Be prepared to come to a grinding halt. What's cool about this experience, though, is that your shopping carts are built for crowds. Not only does your cart go forward, but it goes left and right as well, smoothly and seamlessly. Find yourself lucky enough to push a cart in an empty aisle, and you'll never want to push anything but a Korean supermarket cart again.

2) Free samples galore. Feeling hungry, but you're on a tight budget? Go to a supermarket and eat more than you can possibly handle. We're talking about free samples of fruits, milk, cheese, yoghurt, steak (yes, steak), donuts, and more. And there's also no need to worry about that pesky one-sample-per-person rule. In Korea, you'll find lots of people snapping up a bunch of samples, so do not feel ashamed to do the same.

3) Get ready for some noise. Forget about the peaceful shopping music you might be used to. Instead of music, get used to shouting. Lots of shouting. Men shouting. They'll shout from across the store, just to let you know about the sale. MEAT SALE! DELICIOUS MEAT SALE! COME HERE NOW AND GET THIS REALLY DELICIOUS MEAT ON SALE! You'll know about the sale without even reading a sign about it. That's these men's jobs. And it's not as easy as just going to the meat sale and grabbing some: there'll be a line of people waiting to get their's (remember the big crowds?). So wait in line to get a product, and then wait in another line to pay for it. Yikes!

This is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the cool things you can find at a Korean Supermarket. I will not tell you the rest, because that'll ruin the fun. But, if you ever do find yourself in Korea, skip a tourist spot or two and head over to a Korean Supermarket. You will not regret it!

It is a matchless structure that you will not find in any other place across the globe. There are countless theories that prevail when it comes to the way in which it was built. Despite the existence of these theories, it seems that the ancient Egyptians were far more technologically advanced to have left any record of its construction. There are different shafts, chambers and passages that couple with the myths when you uncover the history of these structures. Sightseeing for Egypt Pyramids is undoubtedly on the list of every visitor to this country. Precisely, it is the shape of this structure and the engineering skills of the ancient times that may have led to the formulation of several theories.

The visitors planning a trip to this country are keener about the trip to the pyramids because of the grand and majestic structure. However, the existence of different theories also attracts the attention of people greatly. There are packaged tours available for the travellers and a day-long trip to view the structure is the prime attraction. Whether it is the orientation of the structure to the cardinal points of the compass, the massive limestone structure and the astonishing work all of it compels you to visit the pyramids of Egypt.

10 Tips For Being A Responsible Tourist

It’s important when you are traveling, anywhere in the world, to be aware of the concerns that a particular destinations limited infrastructure places on its environment. Certain countries in Asia particularly struggle with waste management and the control of available water resources. As travelers it’s imperative we do everything possible to assist with minimizing our impact whilst enjoying the facilities and services that our favorite destinations provide. The following is a list of some of the things you can do to assist local management authorities.

Refill Your Water Bottle:

Contribute to the waste management and help to recycle plastic by reusing your water bottle. This helps to save you money and is a simple way to exercise green practice.

Don’t Throw Anything In The Toilet:

Non-organic waste thrown into the toilet can create blockages and cause grey-water to flow into low-lying areas of land as well as the ocean. This increases pollution and can kill the fragile underwater eco systems.

Save Water:

Minimize your water consumption and always turn taps off when not in use. Keep showers to a minimum length of time. Many destinations, particularly small islands have very limited freshwater resources. Be as conservative as possible.

Dispose Of Rubbish Correctly:

Walk those few extra steps to place your rubbish in bins provided. If you see rubbish on the street, do your part and find a bin to put it in. We can all do our bit to keep our favourite destinations clean and inviting.

Avoid Walking On Reefs & Fragile Coastal Dunes:

Corals are particularly fragile organisms and it often takes decades for them to grow. Respect their space and avoid walking on them. Sand dunes are also fragile environments and subject to water and wind erosion. Do your part to assist with stabilising the dunes and stick to the paths provided.

Be A Good Role Model:

Set a good example for other tourists and show others your interactions with the environment can make a huge difference. Be proactive in getting the message across.

Switch Off The A/C When Out:

Consider the limited resources of many small destinations and turn off you’re A/C, lights, fans and other electricity when away from your accommodation. This will also help keep the running costs down in the places you choose to stay.

Avoid Taking Souvenirs From The Beach:

Seashells are often housing living animals and taking them out of their natural habitat will most likely kill them. For example, hermit crabs will look for new and bigger seashells as they grow. Don’t leave a hermit crab homeless.

Report Environmental Disturbances:

Interfering with aquatic animals, walking on reefs, anchoring boats and discarding waste are examples of non-eco friendly behaviour. Do your part and report incidents that you witness to local authorities.

Get Behind Local Environmental Activities:

No matter how small or insignificant they may seem, your contributions can have a great impact on the corner of the planet in which you live or spend your holidays. There are many ways in which to show your support for a cleaner environment. Participate in local activities such as beach clean-ups, education programmes, and other ecological activities.

As travellers it’s up to us to ensure that the beautiful places we seek out on our holidays remain just that for generations to come. The most insignificant of act can have either a positive or detrimental effect on the environment. Always consider your actions and be a responsible traveller.

Eco Tourism

The words "Eco" and "Eco Friendly Holidays" and "Eco Tourism" are rapidly becoming the current buzzwords in the holiday travel industry. While welcoming the current focus on the environment it must be said that although many reputable travel organizations are truly dedicated to conservation and protection of the environment there are others simply exploiting marketing possibilities.

There is no argument against the facts that we humans cause emission of harmful gases from our homes, when driving our cars and when flying away on holiday. According to Chaucer, there are lies, dammed lies and statistics and the current statistics, being banded about suggest that airlines are the main offenders. In fact, our homes are the worst offenders with around 25% of emissions, with airlines contributing 5%.

Household emissions of CO2 are calculated at 11 tonnes per person per annual whereas a return holiday flight to Belize produces 2.38 tonnes per passenger. Having said that, it must be understood that air travel is the fastest growing source of harmful emission.

Governments seem unwilling or unable to address these problems in a practical way. As a holiday traveler there are some ways you can contribute to the reduction of CO2.
Perhaps it is possible for you and your family to have fewer but longer holidays if they require air travel. You could also eliminate those short breaks.

Direct flights to your destination will reduce the take-offs and landings which contribute the worst emissions. Night and winter flights should be avoided if possible. Choose a "young" airline. New aircraft pollute less. Sometimes visit local holiday destinations with travel by car (car sharing), public transport or even walking or cycling.

Extremists would suggest banning all holiday flights. This would have a totally negative effect on the economies of many countries visited by tourists. The money earned from responsible tourists will fund education programs, support conservation projects and enable investment in carbon reduction technologies.

In your own way, as an Eco Tourist you can also help the environment at your holiday destination. Economise on the air conditioning, limit use of the laundry facilities, do not waste water, if it is safe drink tap water, buy locally produced food etc, from local establishments and avoid the purchase of imported goods.

Your choice of holiday destination and method of travel can make a positive contribution to this global problem. If we were all to make even small changes in our lifestyle and travel it would amount to a very large change in the damage we are causing globally.

Tourists Flock To Discover The Amazing Sights Of Prague

After the split of Czechoslovakia in 1993, Prague was named the capital of the new Czech Republic. The city grew to be an important cultural center of Europe and is now the sixth most visited city in Europe after London, Rome, Paris, Madrid and Berlin. The city suffered significantly less damage during World War II than many other major cities in the region, allowing most of its historic architecture to stay true to form, one of the main reasons why thousands of people visit Prague every year.

Visitors to Prague have a whole host of historic attractions to take in and enjoy. Perhaps the most scenic of all is the Charles Bridge that crosses the Vltava River, connecting Prague's Old Town to the Lesser Quarter, one of Prague's oldest boroughs, with a continuous alley of 30 baroque statues lining the bridge. At night the bridge offers quiet solitude, allowing visitors to take in the beautiful view of the Vltava and the areas either side of it – a direct contrast to the hustle and bustle of the bridge during the day, as kiosk owners, street artists and musicians compete for the attentions of tourists and residents crossing the bridge.

The Old Town also features an array of stunning attractions. The original place of settlement of Prague, it was separated from the outside by a semi-circular moat and wall before the expansion of the city in the 14th century. The moat and wall were dismantled soon after and are now covered by streets. Records dating back to 1100 estimate that the Old Town Square was the site of a market every Saturday and also large military gatherings.

Visitors to the area can enjoy the sights of the medieval Astronomical Clock. The clock features an astronomical dial representing the position of the sun and the moon in the sky as well as "The Walk of the Apostles", a clockwork hourly show of figures of the Apostles and other moving sculptures. Many very reasonably priced bars, restaurants and shops can also be found in the Old Town, making it a popular destination for those who make the journey to Prague.

Perhaps the most awe inspiring sight Prague offers is Prague Castle, where Czech kings, Holy Roman emperors and the presidents of the Czech Republic have all had their offices, with the crown jewels of the Bohemia Kingdom also kept there. More impressive than the Castle itself is St. Louis Vitus Cathedral, which is contained within the Castle walls. One of, if not the most impressive examples of gothic architecture in the world, the cathedral was founded in the 14th century when the Prague bishopric was raised to archbishopric. St. Vitus Cathedral has many fascinating places for tourists to visit. From St. Wenceslas Chapel – where the relics of the saint are kept – to the tombs of many Bohemian Kings underneath the cathedral, this attraction is a treat for any history or architecture enthusiasts.

The Czech Republic has re-invented itself since since the days of Communist rule, with the country embracing tourists and much of Western culture as evidenced by the shops, restaurants and luxury hotels in Prague . Despite these changes, however, the most endearing aspect of Prague remains its history, illustrated by the stunning architecture and natural beauty of the city.
