German Tourists Are Always Welcomed In The USA

The other day I was at Starbucks and some German tourists came by, they were young people perhaps in college traveling the United States by Rent-A-Car. They were well mannered, spoke perfect English with a German accent, and were quite happy traveling around and using their mobile apps to help them navigate and visit all of the museums, sites, and natural scenery along the California coast. They told me they will had driven along the coast from San Francisco through Big Sur along Highway 1, and were enjoying themselves in Malibu and would later head off into the evening into Los Angeles for all the sites there.

They said something very interesting to me, somewhat troubling. I asked them if they were from Germany because they were speaking German, and they said they were, and I told them; “thank you for spending your money in our country. I hope you’re having a very good time.” They thanked me for being so nice, and they said they were finding that most people were also nice to them, but they had been afraid to tell anyone they were from Germany because they thought Americans didn’t like Germans. This is because many of them in their country believe that the world is still mad at them for what happened in World War II.

Yes, that’s a difficult thing to get over, no doubt, and yet, in the United States we have a tremendous number of Germans, most of them came over as farmers in the 1800s, and early 1900s before the war. Many of them are farmers, and they’ve helped to make America great. All German tourists should be happy to note that they are always welcomed in the United States, and we wish them to come and enjoy themselves, see all there is to see, and go back and tell everyone that it is a complete myth that those in the United States don’t like Germans.

We drive German cars, we by German products, and we even have German companies that have factories in our country employing tens of thousands of Americans. Whereas, these kids might be the great grandkids of fathers that fought in the NAZI Army or flew for the Luftwaffe, they are no more Nazis than any of us. They had nothing to do with it, and condemn that part of their history. No nation is without smudges on their history books. Even the United States once had slavery, and that was definitely a black mark on our noble past.

Yes, Germans are welcomed as tourists in the United States. In fact, we have a lot to talk about. Please tell all your German friends to come visit and to crush that myth which seems to be so pervasive in Germany that Germans are disliked all over the world. They aren’t disliked here, we welcome everyone, Germans are fine by us. Please consider all this and think on it.

There are so many countries that boast of the best architecture, cuisine, sites to visit and markets to shop at. When you are looking at possible destinations, consult a world guide who can give you the best deals. When you are consulting one, give the full details of your proposed trip. May I Or Can I Send You an Email?

There is a real difference between “May I send you an email?” and “Can I send you an email.” And I’m not just talking about which question to ask your prospective subscriber.

In case you’re wondering now that I’ve mentioned it, WordTask defines “may” as expressing permission or possibility, while “can” expresses ability.

In email marketing, the first question…”May I send you an email?” is the essential question you’re asking your prospective subscriber when getting permission to send her an email. This is where you need to be really clear about what you’re asking permission to send, and she needs to be really clear about what she’s giving you permission to send.

The “Can I send you an email” is an entirely different story. Your ability to actually deliver the email is, however, is still a bit of permission. Not so much the asking permission…the “May I?” because there’s really no one to ask permission of…but the finding out through testing whether you can actually get the email to move all the way from your “out basket” to your intended recipient’s “in basket.”

This is the more technical side of email marketing, and it can be much trickier.

The “can” for email marketing consists of whether your prospective subscriber has the right kind of software to receive your email in the format you’ve designed it…and…(the part about finding out if you got permission without saying “Mother may I?”) is whether you can (have the ability to) get your content and layout to pass through the permission police of the numerous spam filters currently used by Internet Service Providers (ISP’s) as well as any additional filters added by your prospective subscriber.

The first part of the “Can…” in terms of whether your subscriber can actually read what you send is getting somewhat easier, as computer operating systems and software upgrades now permit most email users to read HTML, PDF and text. However, it’s certainly not 100%, so part of your “May I send you emails?” questionnaire is “In what format would you like to receive your emails?” so you will know what she can read on her computer, as well as what she may prefer.

The second part of “Can I” (your ability to physically get the email delivered) also involves an action on her part and that is…she must “whitelist” you…or add you to her acceptable contacts list, as well as confirm the opt-in, so that your emails won’t automatically be sent to her “junk mail. “

Now that you’ve gotten that far, the last barrier on the “Can you get the email through” is the most difficult…and quite frankly, may best be left to the experts. Especially if you’re quickly developing a large email list. The experts at getting past the spam filters are email marketing services, who act as your agent, have developed a “relationship” with the ISP’s. They know and understand what words, phrases, graphics, and other testing criteria may cause your messages to be considered “spam, ” and cause them to be blocked before they can be received.

At Toptenreviews.com, you can see that the three highest ranked email marketing services are Icontact, Benchmark, and ConstantContact. They are not the only email marketing companies that you might consider, but using someone in this field can make a significant difference in whether your email message can get through to the intended recipient’s inbox.

There you have it. Once you have permission, you may send the email. And, once you understand the formats and filters, (and probably obtained a little professional assistance) you can get your emails into the proper inbox.

How To Do Free Background Checks With No Credit Card Needed

Many people want to know if it’s really possible to conduct free background checks with no credit card needed. In this article we will discuss why these searches are so popular, as well as some options that are available to you that don’t require a credit card.

Free background checks with no credit card needed are simply a way to find sensitive information about a certain person. You can investigate financial, criminal, commercial and personal records on someone depending on what service you are using.

Here are the main benefits and reasons people are looking to do free background checks with no credit card needed:

#1: Learn more about the person you are about to hire.

Bad hires can be quite costly to a company’s bank account and their moral. This is because by hiring the wrong employee you are likely to waste a lot of resources training and teaching them your business. By conducting an investigative search first, you can save yourself both time and money.

#2: Find out more information about your romantic partner.

As they say: love is blind. In reality it’s more like: love makes people blind. When it comes to dating and love, it’s important to stay safe and keep yourself out of dangerous situations. Your romantic partner may not be the person he or she claims to be which could cause huge problems down the line. While you don’t need to get paranoid about it, you simply need to conduct a few investigations to put your mind at ease.

#3: Learn more about the financial expertise of your future business partner.

When it comes to business, past experience is a good indicator of what you can expect from a person in the future. There’s no reason to believe that a potential business partner will change simply because you start working together. A better solution is to do some investigating before you get financially involved with anyone.

Where to conduct free background checks where no credit card is needed:

While there are hundreds of sites that claim to provide free background checks with no credit card needed, the truth is that they WILL end up requesting payment at some point in the process. Most of them let you spend about 15 to 30 minutes on their website filling in information BEFORE they come clean and request credit card information.

So if you really want to conduct a free background check and not use your credit card then you are going to have to do all the legwork yourself. This means contacting the right government and private agencies to request information.

In the end, the request for services that provide free background checks where you don’t need a credit card has never been bigger. Unfortunately there aren’t any “for profit” companies out there that can help you with this. Don’t lose all hope though, there are several very inexpensive options available as well as ways you can conduct your own investigations using free resources.

Your Guide to the Top 10 ERP Solutions

Top 10 ERP Solutions explained

People often are interested in knowing which are the Top 10 ERP Solutions available. This is a difficult question to answer because it depends upon the company that is asking the question and for what criteria. For example if you are a manufacturer looking for an ERP solution, it would not only matter that you are in the manufacturing Industry, but also which form of manufacturing are you; ie. Discreet, process, or project-based manufacturing are all different with different Top 10 ERP offerings within their respective niche.

Probably the best way to answer the Top 10 ERP solution question is to define the overall ERP market leaders, who both have good track records as well as those who meet the Top 10 ERP criteria in many industries.

We have listed out the Top 10 ERP solutions that we see as market leaders. The big caveat here is that while they may be a market leader, they may not be right for your company. You should look carefully at any ERP vendor you evaluate and determine if they are truly a good fit for you.

Our Top 10 ERP Solutions

There are three tiers of ERP Software. These tiers refer to the size of the systems relative to the size of the companies. Tier 1 is the largest systems which support the largest companies. Tier 2 is the middle market solutions serving companies of about $50 Million in revenue up to $500 Million. Often these solutions are scaled so that they roll out individual installations on a plant by plant basis. Tier 3 is for those companies under $50 Million in revenue and is designed for the smaller companies.

We will look at the Top 10 ERP solutions by Tier so as to give you a relative sizing of the systems. Keep in mind that the Tiers are only a general guide and that there is no rule that says a Tier 1 system cannot work in a Tier 2 client.

Tier 1 ERP Solutions

SAP

SAP is one of the market leaders in ERP software. Having been around since the early 1970’s SAP has implementations in many of the Fortune 500 and is well suited for global corporations. But this doesn’t mean that they don’t work locally and with smaller clients. They have put an emphasis in the last ten years on meeting the needs of the smaller company. By smaller, we mean the smaller corporations and companies whose annual revenue exceeds $50 Million per year. This is not a hard and fast rule, as now there are more offerings from SAP that are well suited to the smaller companies. Bottom line is that there is probably nothing that SAP cannot do. Along with Oracle, they are probably on most people’s Top 10 ERP list.

Oracle

A strong competitor to SAP is Oracle. Although Oracle started as a database company, it quickly moved into the ERP Applications world and won over many large organizations. Like SAP, Oracle’s sweet spot is in the larger market. But they too have learned to work in the middle market. (Companies of $50-$500 Million in Sales) Again, like SAP, Oracle can do just about anything. But keep in mind with both of these systems that they are almost a platform that can be built to suit any company (for a price).

Microsoft

Microsoft joined the ERP world several years back with the acquisitions of multiple ERP Packages. They have since re-branded, retooled, and integrated these solutions into their Office and Web offerings. Solutions such as the powerful Microsoft AX can scale to very large companies and provides a lot of functionality. Microsoft NV is a very flexible package that can be modeled to fit any type of business. Microsoft GP has roots in service and distribution and is a good financial system. Microsoft SL is for companies who are looking for a project and financial software.

Tier 2 ERP Solutions

Our Top 10 ERP list has a majority of its players in the Tier 2 level. Tier 2 Solutions are suitable for the companies that have revenues greater than $50 Million in revenue. They are well suited for the division level of very large companies or for businesses that have a single market focus. They too can scale up, but usually they are not seen in companies over $500 Million in revenue, except at the plant level.

Infor

Infor is an interesting company in that they came into the market and made multiple acquisitions and have continued to develop these various solutions. They have a package for just about every type of business.

The way they work is they find out what business you are in and then provide you with a solution that works well in your industry. You will be sure to find a suitable product from Infor.

IFS

Industrial and Financial Systems (IFS) does exactly what their name says. They are a tremendous ERP solution for the Industrial manufacturing world.

Abas

Always strong in Manufacturing and Distribution. This Tier 2 solution works very well and has many successful installs. If you are a company who is larger than $25 Million and Smaller than $1 Billion in sales, then you should probably take a look at this solution.

Epicor

Similar to Abas, Epicor is a strong middle market ERP solution that works very well in Accounting, Distribution, and Manufacturing. They have a great story to tell and their products are well-developed. They too are worth a look.

Syspro

Syspro is another middle market competitor who does very well in the small to medium size businesses. Originally developed in South Africa, they have taken on the world with tremendous force and have done quite well.

Plex

Plex is a Cloud Computing ERP solution, meaning that you do not house any of the software inside your company. It is all web based. This is the growing trend, but Plex is the pioneer in the ERP space. If you are looking for a simple to run solution in the manufacturing or distribution space, there is nothing easier.

Sage

Sage has, like Infor and others, acquired numerous products over the past 5 to 10 years. As such, they have some great offerings for various industries. Systems such as their mainstay, MAS200 or even MAS500 are great products that serve distribution and manufacturing quite well.

Top 10 ERP solutions roundup

As we mentioned in the beginning, this is an overall ERP solutions comparison. But each industry and market can have their own top 10 ERP list. Remember that each year the vendors come and go, so as long as you do your due diligence, and focus on the vendors in your market space, you will be able to narrow down the field to a shortlist that fits your needs.

The Purpose of Control Accounts

The reasons for having control accounts are as follows:

1. Check on the accuracy

They provide a check on the accuracy of entries made in the personal accounts in the sales ledger and purchase ledger. It is very easy to make a mistake in posting entries, because there might be hundreds of entries to make. Figures might get transposed. Some entries might be omitted altogether, so that an invoice or a payment transaction does not appear in a personal account as it should. By comparing:

o The total balance on the debtors account with the total of individual balances on the personal accounts in the sales ledger.

o The total balance on the creditors account with the total of individual balances on the personal accounts in the purchase ledger.

It is possible to identify the fact that errors have been made.

2. Location of errors

It could also assist in the location of errors, where posting to the control accounts are made daily or weekly, or even monthly. If a clerk fails to record an invoice or a payment in a personal account, or makes a transaction error, it would be a formidable task to locate the error or errors at the end of a year, say, given the hundreds or thousands of transactions during the year.

By using the control account, a comparison with the individual balances in the sales or purchase ledger can be made for every week or day of the month, and the error found much more quickly than if accounts did not exist.

3. For internal check

Where there is a separate of clerical bookkeeping duties, the control account provides an internal check. The person posting entries to the accounts will act as check on a different person whose job it is to post entries to the sales and purchase ledger accounts.

4. More simply and quickly

To provide debtors and creditors balances more quickly for producing a trial balance or balance sheet. A single balance on a control account is obviously expected simpler and quickly than many individual balances in the sales or purchase ledger.

This means also that the number of accounts in the double entry bookkeeping system can be kept down to a manageable size, since the personal accounts are memorandum accounts only and the control accounts instead provide the accounts required for a double entry system.

February Fever

Welcome to the top 5 organizing projects for February. As of the 1st of the month there are only 48 days until Spring!!! I’ve got spring fever already. Did you know that a 2013 survey showed that over 72% of households in the U.S. engage in some kind of spring cleaning? The trend seems to increase incrementally each year. See, you are not alone.

If you are like me you are getting antsy to get your hands in the dirt and start growing those precious seedlings of flowers, fruits and/or veggies or maybe your dirt looks like getting a jump on cleaning the garage or attic or perhaps you are ready to make your to-do list for all the exciting possibilities Spring has in store. Let’s jump in here and get to our next top 5 organizing projects:

Our 1st item on the top 5 list is to focus on the rest of our closets from January and add cabinets.

“Originally, the cellar served primarily as a coal store. Today it holds the boiler, idle suitcases, out-of-season sporting equipment, and many sealed cardboard boxes that are almost never opened but are always carefully transferred from house to house with every move in the belief that one day someone might want some baby clothes that have been kept in a box for twenty-five years.”

Bill Bryson, At Home: A Short History of Private Life

I read the above quote one day and had to share because OMG I actually do have those baby clothes boxes in my attic. Honestly, I saved them for when my children had children so they could share their baby clothes but now I just visit those boxes simply because I need to reminisce. Psst, I think it’s time they go to a better home. Now, I do understand that cleaning out all of those closets and cabinets might be a daunting task however, imagine how surprised and free you will feel each time you open any closet/cabinet and see all the space available and how neat everything is stacked, hung, boxed and/or stored. I try to just work on at least one cabinet and closet per day. That way I don’t feel overwhelmed.

This seamlessly leads to the 2nd item on the organizing list: Pots, pans, brooms, sheets, towels, or boxed items found in the back of the closet that you have absolutely no idea as to what is in them. And let’s not forget the kids’ closets. Here is where the fun really begins because now we can separate it all into boxes marked keep, discard, and donate. Keep a blank pad of paper near you at all times so that you can make your own list of what needs replacing or mending. Last year I found that there were a few mechanical items that needed to be donated like the Roomba we never used and the fish cage for the BBQ and I was able to repurpose old kids’ t-shirts by collecting enough to have a comforter made from them.”Everybody wants to save the Earth; nobody wants to help Mom do the dishes.”

P.J. O’Rourke, All the Trouble in the World

The 3rd item is to specifically organize your shoes. I’m talking ALL shoes. Girls, it’s important to make room for the new sandals and flip flops so let’s get excited!! I store my summer shoes in a large, rectangle wicker basket during the winter and I use an adjustable shoe rack on the floor of my closet for the current season of shoes. Rotating my seasons keeps me focused on the present and allows me to pay close attention to what shoes will need repair and what will need to go once that season is over. I have to admit that it is a very thrilling time for me when I rotate my shoes because it means I am always looking forward to the outfit possibilities. Lately I have been enjoying a song by Old Dominion called “Shoe Shopping”. Check it out while you go through your shoes. It’s quirky and fun.

“Above all, believe in true love and know that men are like shoes. A couple is like a left and a right foot, and out there is your perfect fit. Sometimes you need to change styles and shop around to find it. Sometimes you have to break styles in, sometimes you feel like something that is unstylish but comfortable, and sometimes a style – as much as you like – just doesn’t suit you and will never fit.”

Camilla Morton, How to Walk in High Heels: The Girl’s Guide to Everything

The 4th item might not apply to everyone, especially if you filed your taxes in January but around my house most of the tax documents finish their trek to my mailbox by the end of January so my husband is ready to begin the process of sorting it all out and getting the information ready to be filed. If this is you then maybe this is the year to begin creating filing folders or bins specifically for tax prep. Creating a filing system, clearly labeling files for collecting receipts throughout the year, scanning specific documents like pay stubs so that you won’t have to save each and every one of them. Staying on top of this mound of paperwork from the beginning of the year will be a blessing come tax time next year. Print this document to help you know what to keep and for how long.

The invention of the teenager was a mistake. Once you identify a period of life in which people get to stay out late but don’t have to pay taxes – naturally, no one wants to live any other way.”

Judith Martin

And just like that here we are at the 5th item on our organizing list for February. Item 5 is kind of a fun item and ties back to my own antsy disposition regarding gardening. Sometime around the 15th of February, and in some locations even earlier, certain seedlings can be planted in a starter garden. If you have southern facing windows where sunlight comes in all day that is the ideal spot for your starter garden. If you are like me and go crazy with seedlings then you know that the indoor starter garden area runs out of usable space. In cases like these where you just don’t have enough room for all the seedlings you will be starting you can use special light kits that set up neatly and effectively to help those seedlings get the best possible care. The fun part of this project other than planting is going to the store or ordering from a favorite catalog all the precious flower seeds and food seeds you would like to have growing in your garden this year. This is a great project for the kids to help out. My kids used to love watching their seedlings grow. It’s the next best thing to a pet.

I hope you enjoy the discoveries and space you will find this month.

See you in March!

“It was such a pleasure to sink one’s hands into the warm earth, to feel at one’s fingertips the possibilities of the new season.”

Kate Morton, The Forgotten Garden
